Our client is a respected Aboriginal community controlled organisation delivering culturally safe early intervention and prevention programs to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families. The Reconnect Program works with young people aged 12–18 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, supporting them and their families to strengthen relationships, stabilise housing and improve engagement with education, employment and community. This role provides holistic, trauma informed casework, outreach and family support to break cycles of disconnection and housing instability.
This is an Aboriginal identified position. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply. The organisation considers that being Aboriginal and male is a genuine occupational requirement for this role under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW), given the cultural and gender specific responsibilities inherent in the position.
This role will involve;
- Communicate effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, fostering community partnerships to address youth homelessness.
- Assess family dynamics, develop intervention plans, and provide counselling, mediation, and support.
- Mentor young people, model positive behaviors, and support goal achievement through structured case management.
- Collaborate with professionals to meet clients' physical, mental, emotional, educational, and housing needs.
- Support family reconciliation or connect youth with therapeutic and support services when needed.
- Deliver accessible outreach services to Indigenous youth and families through the Reconnect Program.
- Maintain records, compile reports, and manage program statistics as required.
The requirements for this role include;
- Minimum Cert IV in Youth Work, Community Services or related field.
- Effectively support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and families in the ACT and surrounding regions, promoting services and fostering community connections.
- Experience implementing case management, group programs, and therapeutic interventions.
- Liaise with community resources, service agencies, and government departments, maintaining strong partnerships while demonstrating excellent written, oral, and administrative skill.
- Current ACT Driver's License
- Working with Vulnerable People Check and willingness to obtain a National Police Clearance
