Barnardos Australia is seeking a dedicated Aboriginal Caseworker to join our Aboriginal Early Years Program in Marrickville, 2204. This is a part-time, permanent opportunity to be part of a values-led organisation committed to making a real difference in the lives of children and families.

This is a part time role, 28hrs, 4 days a week.

This position is Aboriginal identified. To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the role be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.

About the Role
As a Aboriginal Caseworker, you will:
  • Provide strengths-based, family-focused case management to children, young people and families in accordance with CAFS Program Specifications, Program Guidelines and Barnardos policies, procedures, and practice guidelines.
  • Undertake holistic, strengths-based assessments of families referred to the program using Barnardos assessment tools and develop family-led case plans with clear goals, strategies and supports.
  • Provide flexible support including regular home visits, centre-based and community outreach, phone and online contact, tailored to family needs and preferences.
  • Identify and respond to family violence using the Safe and Together Model and trauma-informed, culturally safe approaches, including risk assessment, safety planning, and warm referral to specialist family violence and perpetrator services.
  • Work in ways consistent with the Aboriginal Case Management Policy when working with Aboriginal children, young people and families, supporting Aboriginal-led assessment and decision-making, and connection to kin, community, culture, and Country.

You’ll join a collaborative and supportive team delivering high-quality, trauma-informed services that uphold child safety, cultural safety, and family-led practice.

Skills and Experience :
  • Experience working with children, young people and their families in a child protection, early intervention, or family support context.
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborative casework with government and non-government agencies, including coordinated referral and advocacy on behalf of families.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally safe practice, including an understanding of the impacts of trauma, racism and intergenerational disadvantage on children, young people, and families.
  • Understanding of family violence dynamics, impacts, and appropriate service responses.
  • Proven capacity to engage families, build trust and support sustained participation in voluntary services.
  • Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families, and communities, including a strong understanding of cultural safety, self-determination, and the historical and contemporary factors that impact Aboriginal peoples.


What’s on Offer:
Base salary: $76,387 – $84,013 per annum pro rata + 12% superannuation
Salary packaging: Up to $15,860 tax-free (general living expenses)
Meal & entertainment packaging: Additional $2,650 tax-free per FBT year
